The City of Livermore Volunteer Center provides volunteer opportunities for residents to share their talents with City government and non-profit organizations. The Volunteer Center serves as an important information link with volunteer opportunities posted by City of Livermore Departments and Lend A Hand Tri-Valley which includes local non-profit organizations and other public sector related agencies. The Administrative Services Department consists of the Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology Divisions and provides essential services and support to internal and external customers of the City of Livermore.
The City Manager acts as the chief executive officer of the City and is responsible for the operational activities of City departments; works with the City Council in the development of ordinances, resolutions, and policies to successfully execute the City Council's legislative actions; and provides public information to the community through a variety of sources including the City newsletter, the City website, and media releases.
The Community Development Department provides services that relate to land use, building construction, infrastructure development, affordable housing, and human services. The Department is responsible for implementing City Council policies related to planning and managing the City's growth, matching development with service demands, and ensuring that new development is attractive, durable, and designed and constructed in a way which protects public health and safety. In addition, the Department implements a number of programs that provide housing, counseling, shelter, referral, and other specialized services to citizens.
The Economic Development Department is dedicated to enhancing Livermore's economic vitality, attracting and retaining businesses, and expanding the city's tax and employment base.
The Livermore Public Library encourages the development of a lifelong interest in reading and learning by youth and adults, provides materials and services of popular interest, supports the educational needs of the community, furnishes timely, accurate information, and builds cultural awareness and enrichment.
The Police Department provides a variety of services that relate to the protection of life and property, such as criminal investigations, crime analysis, patrol, traffic safety, animal control, crime prevention, dispatch, Horizons Family Counseling, and records management.

The Public Works Department is comprised of five divisions: Airport, Environmental Services, Golf, Maintenance Services, and Water Resources and provides services in support of the airport, solid waste and recycling programs, two municipal golf courses, street maintenance, facilities maintenance, traffic signals, street lighting, traffic signs and markings, park trees, street sweeping, fleet services, and water, wastewater and storm water utilities.
