with use of a sidewalk

Contact the City of Livermore Maintenance Department for tree removal permit information prior to removing any tree from your property or if you suspect a tree has been or is about to be removed without a permit.

Most issues dealing with trees and hedges on privately owned property are civil matters that must be handled between property owners. Hedges which cause a visual or "line of sight" hazard for vehicle traffic at intersections must be reported to The City’s Engineering Division via this website or by calling 925-960-4500.

The City’s Maintenance Department handles tree removal permits and nuisance trees and hedges interfering with the public streets and sidewalks. The following examples should be reported to The City’s Maintenance Department via this website or by calling 925-960-8020:

  • Trees on a privately owned property, including street trees, with branches overhanging a public sidewalk which are less than 8’ high measured vertically from the surface of the sidewalk
  • Trees on a privately owned property, including street trees, with branches overhanging a public street which are less than 11’ high measured vertically from the top of the curb.
  • Hedges growing into/over/onto a public sidewalk or street blocking or interfering with pedestrian use.
  • Any tree removal without a permit on any property within the City of Livermore.
