The mission of the Housing and Human Services Division (HHS) is to produce, preserve, and support affordable housing to help low-income, homeless, senior and disabled Livermore residents. HHS also administers contracts with community organizations to assist low-income residents to obtain necessary services for children and youth, singles and families, seniors, and those who have special needs.
Chestnut Square on January 23, the City Council approved the Chestnut Square project – a mixed-income, multi-generational residential development of 114 affordable rental units for households with incomes up to 60% of the Area Median Income and 44 market-rate for-sale housing townhomes. MidPen Housing will build and operate the two affordable apartment complexes. Construction is expected to begin December 2017 on the 72-unit Senior complex and December 2018 on the 42-unit Family complex. For information on the project, please click here.
Sunflower Hill Livermore a semi-independent affordable residential rental community for 44 individuals with special needs (Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc.), with incomes between 20% and 50% of the area median income. The community, managed by MidPen Housing Corporation, will have an on-site property manager 24/7, community activities and amenities. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2020. The 2011 Tri-Valley Human Services Needs Assessment is a report that reviews current human services, identifies gaps in services, and addresses opportunities for improving services in the Tri-Valley.
Path to Picasso works with artistic Livermore youth ages 14 to 18, including those who have been expelled from school due to tagging or other forms of graffiti. The program matches local professional artists to teach participants how to create more socially accepted methods of presenting their art.
