Troubleshooting/Tips

  • For iOS devices, first make sure the PrinterOn app has access to documents. Go to iPhone Settings app > scroll to find the PrinterON settings > move slider to right to allow access to Documents (shows green when on).
  • There are very limited editing (page settings) functions. Patrons should in general have files that easily fit to 8.5" x 11" paper. Word or PDF files work best. Excel files are subject to PrinterOn's self-resizing and sometimes give "preview not available error".
  • For print jobs with multiple pages, the print options include an option of printing only a selection of pages and an option to choose one-sided vs. double-sided (one-sided is called “duplex off”).
  • Just as with printing web pages from our desktop computers, results can be unpredictable (what you see on the screen is not always what you get on paper). The preview in the app is limited. If possible the web document should be downloaded and saved on the device. Sometimes a screenshot of a web page may produce better results than printing a web page.
  • Patrons should wait until app notifies them that the job is complete. This takes a couple of minutes depending on how large the print job is. Entering the name/password early will get a fail to authenticate error.
  • The PrinterOn App keeps a record of one's print history. This can be deleted manually in the app. Print jobs can be resent from the print history but there is no way to retrieve what username and password was used to send the original job.
  • Once selected, a printer stays selected, so for instance, a patron who selected the color printer for their last print job could accidentally send their next b/w print job to the color printer resulting in a higher charge if they forget to change it.
