Livermore Public Library Just Got Friendlier for Kids with a New Digital eBook Library
June 25, 2014
The Livermore Public Library now offers a kid-friendly eBook experience within its virtual library at http://livermore.lib.overdrive.com/kids in order for children to easily and safely find age-appropriate digital library books.
The Livermore Public Library expanded its web services with a new digital collection just for kids. The eBook and eAudiobook library, powered by OverDrive, now has a separate eReading Room for kids ensuring an easy browsing experience with kids’ titles only. The Library staff recognizes the need to provide a safe environment for children to browse library materials. Just as the children’s section of the physical library is sectioned off, the same experience is now available on the digital collection.
The librarians at Livermore Public Library are excited about the new enhancement for children due to the visual appeal and user-friendliness of the new eBook and eAudiobook site. It promotes literacy in a fun way and the joys of reading in a digital environment with picture books, easy readers, and chapter books. The kid’s eReading Room filters the overall digital collection to only show content for children, which connects kids more quickly to the titles they want. Browsing and searching can be done by subject, reading level or interest level. The website is: http://livermore.lib.overdrive.com/kids.
This new electronic service is free for Livermore Public Library cardholders with active accounts. Digital titles can be viewed on personal computers or a variety of mobile devices and are available anytime, anywhere and expire automatically, so there is no need to worry about late fees.
