On September 24th, the Livermore City Council warmly congratulated Livermore’s “Super Readers” who read 100 books during the Livermore Public Library’s 2012 Summer Reading Program, “Dream Big, Read”. This year, 660 children earned “Super Reader” status and were rewarded with a medal and an invitation to attend this special City Council event.
The evening began with the children checking in to get their name badges at the Civic Center Library, where they were also invited to sign up for a gift certificate drawing sponsored by the Friends of the Livermore Library. Library staff and volunteers then assisted parents and children in lining up and proceeding through the Civic Center complex to the Council Chambers. Mayor Marchand and the City Council Members shook each child’s hand after Library Director Susan Gallinger read the child’s name aloud. Proud parents and friends watched the children receive their kudos, applauding and taking photos as the children met the Mayor and City Council. A recording of this special Livermore City Council Meeting can be viewed online at http://www.tri-valleytv.org/VOD.html.
This event was made possible through the generous support of over 40 volunteers, including members of the Friends of the Livermore Library and graduates from the Livermore Citizen’s Police Academy. Plans are already under way for Livermore Public Library’s 2013 Summer Reading Program. For any questions, please contact the Livermore Public Library at (925) 373-5504.
