Need to renew a book or place one on hold? There’s an app for that. Looking for Library hours or locations? There’s an app for that. Want to download an ebook? There’s an app for that, too. The Livermore Public Library has recently launched a mobile app to put the library at your fingertips. From almost any mobile phone connected to the internet you can instantly tap into library resources, anytime, anywhere. You can search the library catalog, check your account, ask a question, find events and more.
To access the library’s mobile app, search Livermore Public Library in your phone’s market and download the app. “45% of American adults now own smartphones and our mobile app gives faster access than going through a browser. It’s important for the library to be easily accessible whenever and wherever people need to connect with our staff and rich resources,” says Susan Gallinger, Director of Library Services. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this new way to use the library by downloading our app.”
Searching the catalog with the mobile app is especially easy. Just type the first few letters of two or three words and search results will begin to appear. For example, if you’re looking up Gone Girl in the catalog, just type “go gi.” Once you find the title you’re looking for, you can place it on hold right from your phone.
The app offers additional features, including BookCheck so patrons can check out books, CDs or DVDs from anywhere in the library, without waiting in line, and BookLook Mobile that lets you scan an ISBN barcode anywhere you are to see if the library owns the title. The Ask Us feature allows patrons to sign up for text message account alerts and to chat or text with library staff to get their questions answered quickly.
