The Livermore Public Library invites children and families to enjoy, “The World Cultural Connection / Asia,” the first in a yearly series of fun multicultural celebrations of rhythm, harmony, dance and more. “The World Cultural Connection / Asia,” is a free event and will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m.at the Civic Center Library. Author Hildi Kang, winner of the 2013 Asian American Children’s Literary Award, will talk about her book, Chengli and the Silk Road Caravan.  Ms. Kang will be on hand to sign copies of her book that will be available from Town Center books at the program.
Families will also be able to enjoy a free special performance by Japanese-style drumming group Eden Aoba Taiko as part of the celebration. The members of the East Bay- based Eden Aoba Taiko range in age from six years to over seventy, and build their own traditional drums. The largest of these taiko measures nearly three feet in diameter, and was constructed from an 80-gallon wine barrel.
And that’s not all!  Clap and dance along as the Kalaikoil dancers present the culture, language, geography and music of South India through the traditional art form of Baharatanatyam. Kalaikoil dancers will show you how to dance a few of the steps and even teach you to say a few Indian words. After the performances, remember to visit the Children’s Room and enjoy the art exhibition from the Fei Tian Academy of the Arts in San Francisco.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for best parking and viewing opportunities, and bring appropriate sun gear.  For more information, please contact the Youth Room at (925) 373-5504.
