Armchair Travelers, a monthly program, will take place at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center on Thursday, October 10, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Frank Rainer has had the opportunity to visit every country in the world, usually accompanied by his wife, Sigrid. In the slideshow presentation, “Turkish Delights and Other Sights”, the Rainers will present photographs and commentary about three of their recent visits to one of their favorite countries, Turkey.
The major portion of their presentation will chronicle a three-week customized journey by land, sea and air. This covers exploring the ancient, multiple-layer ruins of Troy by land, cruising the lovely southwest, Mediterranean coast by sailboat above and below the sea, and by flying over the coast by parasail and over the volcanic spires of Cappadocia by hot-air balloon. On previous and subsequent visits they also covered more history, ranging from ancient Ephesus to Gallipoli of World War I renown, and also cruised along the Black Sea coast of Turkey. With exotic Istanbul as a central base, they still only covered a small fraction of this magical and exotic land that straddles two continents and both ancient and modern cultures.
Adults are invited to this free program on the second Thursday of each month in the Community Meeting Rooms of the Civic Center Library.
