Create Lab Continues at the Livermore Public Library

MAKERSPACE CREATE LAB AT THE LIVERMORE PUBLIC LIBRARY WILL CONTINUE AS AN ONGOING PROGRAM

The Livermore Public Library hosts a “Create Lab” at the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. every Saturday. Create Lab is a pop-up makerspace in the Storytime Room that is aimed at children in grades K – 6. Create Lab participants can use a variety of tools to create, including a sewing machine at the textiles station, LEDs and batteries at the electricity station, a large wooden creative play station, and much more. The Library will provide cardboard, perler beads, and other more traditional construction materials as well. Create Lab is an open learning environment where participants can be creative and take charge of their own learning. The Create Lab will also host volunteers with a variety of skillsets so participants can learn new skills.

Robot Garden, a local robotics themed Makerspace for hobbyists and entrepreneurs, supports Create Lab with expertise and technology at the robotics and computer station each week.

A signed waiver is required for all Create Lab participants, including adults and children. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult with a maximum of two children per adult. The Create Lab was developed with children in grades K – 6 in mind, but all ages are welcome. Create Lab capacity is limited to 40 participants at a time, so access to equipment and materials is on a first come, first served basis. No registration is required. Participants should be aware that some materials in the Create Lab, such as the sewing machine, hot glue guns, and iron, must be used with care to avoid injury.

Create Lab began as a pilot project in January 2017. Due to its popularity and educational value, the library has made the workshop part of its regular, ongoing services.

Create Lab at the Livermore Public Library is made possible thanks to donations from the Friends of the Livermore Library, an anonymous donation, and the support of volunteers.
