Become a Volunteer Literacy Tutor

Imagine being unable to understand a medicine label, fill out a job application, read to your child, or write a letter. These are just some of the challenges faced daily by English-speaking adults who struggle to read and write, and English language learners working to improve their skills. You can make a difference by becoming a literacy tutor. No previous experience is necessary. After successfully completing tutor training, volunteers are paired with an adult learner. Pairs typically meet at their local library once or twice weekly for one to two hours each meeting. The results are life-changing for an adult who’s struggling, and you’ll likely be amazed at what you learn along the way!

The next three-part Tutor Training session will take place on the following dates from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Livermore Public Library’s Civic Center branch, 1188 South Livermore Ave., Livermore.

• Wednesday, January 17th
• Monday, January 22nd
• Wednesday, January 24th
(Please note: Participants attend all three sessions.)
