The Livermore Police Department Traffic Unit strives to keep our community's roadways safe for all motorists and pedestrians. In an effort to accomplish this goal, we employ the three "E"s of traffic safety; Education, Engineering and Enforcement. The Traffic Unit has been developed with this objective in mind. Currently the Traffic Unit consists of 1 Lieutenant, 1 Sergeant, 2 Collision Investigators, 5 Motor Officers, 1 Traffic Education Officer, 1 Community Service Specialist, 1 Community Service Specialist assigned to the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement program and 1 Division Clerk.
The Traffic Unit provides daily traffic enforcement to the many miles of roadways in the City of Livermore and is responsible for investigating all serious injury and fatal collisions in the city. As available, the Traffic Unit will investigate all reported collisions that occurred within city limits.
The Traffic Unit participates in a variety of programs designed to make our roadways safer. Among them are CITE, COSAC, Avoid the 21, Click It or Ticket and DUI saturation patrols.
The Traffic Unit presents education to community members through a wide variety of programs. Every other year the unit presents the Every 15 Minutes program to all juniors and seniors at the Livermore high schools. The unit presents Bicycle Diversion classes, High School Seatbelt Challenge, High School Traffic Safety presentations, car seat safety classes and checkups. The unit volunteers deploy three radar trailers throughout the city in an effort to educate drivers on the speeds they are traveling in comparison to the posted speed limit.
