Citizens on Patrol

LPD Volunteers who have graduated from the Citizen Police Academy and been accepted into the volunteer program can go on to become COP members.

These Volunteers are trained to patrol the city in a marked vehicle and handle specific non-emergency calls for service.  These volunteers must complete a two hour classroom training/expectations class and a minimum of 48 hours of patrol training with the COP trainers.  Once they have been signed off by the trainers and volunteer coordinator that can patrol with a team member.

COP members assist patrol in areas such as barking dog complaints, lost/found property and traffic control.

COP members also provide Bike Patrol to the bike paths and Vacation Checks to those citizens who enroll.

For the first half of 2017 our COP members have worked over 1400 hours
