Women of Aviation Worldwide Week is a global outreach initiative that takes place annually during the week of March 8th, the anniversary date of the world's first female pilot license and International Women's Day. The week is designed to raise awareness of aviation opportunities available to girls/women of all ages while celebrating the accomplishments of past and present women of aviation. Livermore Airport will be celebrating women in aviation one day in March 2019 with a program that features local women pilots and aviation professionals from a variety of career fields. During the day, information on institutions offering aviation programs and scholarship opportunities for girls, introductory flights in a general aviation aircraft, tours of the Livermore FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, and other activities will be scheduled. Since this is a free event, and space will be limited, preregistration will be required. For group registration, contact Airport staff at (925) 960-8220. The Collings Foundation is a non-profit (501(c)3) educational foundation established in 1979. The purpose of the Collings Foundation is to organize and support "living history" events and the presentation of historical artifacts and content that enable Americans to learn more about their heritage through direct participation. The Wings of Freedom tour includes a stop at Livermore Airport, annually during the Memorial Day weekend. The tour showcases two fully restored WWII bomber aircraft; a B-24 Liberator and a B-17 Flying Fortress. Also participating in the tour is a WWII P-51C Mustang dual-control fighter aircraft. These aircraft are on display and available for viewing (fee charged). Flights are also offered (fee charged) in each of these aircraft. Visit the Collings Foundation website for more details on flights and fees. CLICK HERE. The bombers are tentatively scheduled to return to Livermore Airport on Sunday, May 27, 2018 and depart on Tuesday, May 29, 2018. Arrival and departure times are not yet available, but check back later in May for more information.
