City of Livermore Selects KTVU Fox 2 to Create New Advertising Campaign

August 2, 2011

The City of Livermore has selected KTVU Fox 2 to create an innovative advertising campaign entitled "Educate, Stimulate, Innovate" which utilizes one of the newest technologies today – the QR code.

The QR code is a square barcode that smartphone owners can scan with a QR code reader app to visit specific web pages on their mobile devices. Visually, the QR code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background.

"Educate, Stimulate, Innovate" is a campaign that is designed to allow users to take a picture of the QR code seen on TV or online. Consumers then receive a customized page highlighting the City’s award winning wineries, tourist destinations, local businesses, and science and technology community. The campaign will also consist of the tagline "Interact with Livermore." The innovative QR code campaign was created by KTVU’s in-house agency Group 236 (, with input from the City of Livermore.

According to the Center for Media Research, a study by Pitney Bowes found that 9% of small to medium-sized businesses have already tried QR codes in the past year.

"We are proud to be among the first cities in the US to engage the public using the new technology of the QR code, and we want the rest of the Bay Area and California to see how Livermore represents a true hub of innovation and technology," says Rob White, Director of the Economic Development Department.

Founded in 1869, Livermore is California’s oldest wine region, framed by award-winning wineries, farm lands and ranches. Livermore continues to be an emerging technology center and one of the leading California Innovation Hubs, home to the i-GATE iHub and national research institutions Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. Additionally, Livermore and the i-GATE iHub initiative have engaged with regional and national research and academic institutions like the California State University System, the University of California, the University of Oklahoma and the Ohio State University.
