California Pension Reform -- Governor Brown recently signed Assembly Bill 340 which changes public pensions.  While not a panacea for every pension-related problem facing local government, it is a step in the right direction to align costs with resources.  Current employees may no longer purchase extra  credit-years, receive pension benefits if convicted of a work-related felony, or return to work as quickly after retirement.  Future employees will encounter benefit caps, lower cost plans, and final compensation based on an average of three years.  Marc    citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

Nextdoor.com --  Remember when neighbors sat on porches and waved to neighbors strolling by?  Or if you needed a teen-age babysitter or to borrow a specialized tool you just contacted a near-by family?  Nextdoor.com is a free social media network like Facebook that allows neighbors to interact electronically in order to build a sense of community and creater a safer environment.  Only residents in a particular neighborhood may participate in that specific online forum.  The Livermore Police Department is coordinating this effort via their Neighborhood Watch program.  For more details, visit www.cityoflivermore.net.

pulsepoint.jpg

Pulsepoint.org -- Pulsepoint.org is a free phone app for Apple and Droid products that enables residents to assist people in sudden cardiac arrest in public places.  CPR trained residents merely add the app to their phone.  When the cardiac emergency alert dispatches, Pulsepoint.org users in the vicinity will be notified in order to provide early assistance until public safety staff arrive!  Go to pulsepoint.org for more details on this exciting technology now live in this area.  Join forces with the Livermore/Pleasanton Fire Department to save a life; remember every minute counts!

summer reading kids.jpg    Summer Reading Awards Night --At the September 24th City Council Meeting, hundreds of Livermore youth shook hands with the Mayor and City Council Members to acknowledge their success as medalists in the Library's Summer Reading Game!  660 game players qualified this year for the honor.  You could hear the medals clanging down Pacific Avenue.  Congratulations to all...and their family members too!

Slurry Seal Project -- Driving down Concannon Boulevard, North Mines Road, Charlotte Way, Olivina Avenue and North Livermore Avenue might take a bit longer in the weeks ahead due to the annual slurry seal project.  Slurry seal is a protective street coating that extends pavement life by protecting the undersurface from wear, tear, aging and weather.  Work on this project begins in mid-September and should end around the first week of November.  Questions?  Call the City's Engineering Department at 925-960-4500.
