Value of Partnerships -- The City is fortunate to have numerous governmental, business, and organizational partners in the community.  Together, much more is accomplished on behalf of Livermore residents and businesses.  Two accomplishments highlighted in this newsletter issue could not have happened without strong, vibrant partnerships that leverage vision, time, talent and dollars.  What a fabulous place this is!     Marc    citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

White House Honor -- On September 25th, Rob White, City Economic Development Director and interim i-GATE Innovation Hub CEO, attended a White House event honoring him and 12 other individuals as Champions of Change in Innovation.  The i-GATE effort is a unique collaboration and broad super-regional partnership between local governments, the business community and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories/CA as economic engines.  Congratulations to Rob for this honor.  To learn more about this exciting project, visit the City's webpage at www.cityoflivermore.net.  Click on the Economic Development Page, and then select the i-GATE tab.

Bring Your Own Bag -- Beginning January 1, 2013, stores in Alameda County which sell packaged foods, including grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores and pharmacies, will no longer provide customers with single use plastic bags.  Bags made out of recycled paper or reusable bags will be available for purchase.  Consumers are encouraged to bring bags from home.  This countywide ordinance has been adopted in order to save valuable natural resources, reduce littler, and reduce the cost to the public for litter clean-up.  To learn more, go to www.ReusableBagsAC.org.

CAFR.jpg    City Finance Division Receives Award -- The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the City of Livermore a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2011.  The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.  This award aids the City in maintaining its excellent credit rating.  Kudos to the Finance Division staff!

New 24 Hour Fitness Facility -- A second 24 Hour Fitness facility is expected to open in Livermore on Saturday, December 22 -- just in time for members to counteract all that end-of-the-year eating through exercise!  The expanded facility is on Kitty Hawk Road between the I-580 Airway and Isabel exits. This new facility offers members a pool, gymnasium, and more.  According to Regional Vice President Troy Croghan, 24 Hour Fitness plans to hire about 75 employees.  For more information, contact the Economic Development Department at 925-960-4140.
