The Fruits of Our Labors -- After years of discussions, negotiations, planning, building and road construction, landscaping, workforce development, and publicity, the Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley grand opening is just a few weeks away!  November 8th represents the culmination of the vision of City leaders and the hard work of Livermore city staff.  See below for more details about this celebration.      Marc    citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

Paragon Grand Opening-- The Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley will open with great fanfare, fun, and fine wines -- not to mention great sales!   The Grand Opening ceremony is Thursday morning, November 8th, and a VIP party, sponsored by Diablo Magazine, happens that evening.  The Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association will sponsor a "Sunset, Sip & Shop" wine tasting event there on Saturday evening, November 10th.  For invitations, event details, and information on opening weekend sales, visit www.paragonoutletsLV.com.

Measure B Ballot Item -- In the November 6th election, Alameda County Voters will once again have the opportunity to decide whether to reauthorize this transportation sales tax measure and the associated county-wide Transportation Expenditure Plan.  If approved by a 2/3 majority, the measure would augment the current transportation sales tax by a half-cent.  The dollars allocated for Livermore include the BART extension here as well as funding for local streets and paratransit services.  More information is found in the Voter's Packet and the City's website --www.cityoflivermore.net.

bike bridge.jpg    Downtown Iron Horse Trail --An extension of the Iron Horse Trail, a favorite of pedestrians and cyclists alike, involves the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over Livermore Avenue adjacent to the railroad bridge.  Construction will occur intermittently from October 2012 - March 2013.  Residents should expect short delays, various traffic controls and lane closures in the weeks ahead in this area.  Watch for more details about the 2013 opening of this new trail segment...and vary your jogging or cycling routes accordingly!

Pedestrian Safety Month -- October is Pedestrian Safety Month.  While Livermore's pedestrian collision statistics are below the national average, the Police Department remains dedicated to pedestrian safety...especially in this Halloween month! Here are tips:  Walk on the sidewalk whenever possible and use crosswalks.  Cross at intersections.  Look left, right, and then left again for traffic.  Make eye contact with drivers when crossing busy streets.  And if trick-or-treating, carry a flashlight and add some reflective tape or features to a costume.  Stay safe!
