Partings and Partnerships --  At the end of March, I say goodbye to two City Leadership Team Members -- Police Chief Steve Sweeney and Economic Development Director Rob White. Chief Sweeney leaves for the lure of retirement while Rob departs for a new opportunity with the City of Davis, CA.  Both men purposely expanded departmental efforts at relationship-building and local and regional partnerships.  These partnerships paid dividends for the City and its residents via effective and efficient services and new models of economic vitality.  I wish them all the best.  Marc

Police Chief Retires--On March 29,2013, Livermore Police Chief Steve Sweeney will retire after an outstanding public safety career of 32 years.  Chief Sweeney spent 29 of those years in Livermore as a patrol officer, detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and finally Chief in 2007.  Chief Sweeney's commitment to Livermore residents and their quality of life resulted in the expansion of Neighborhood Watch and LPD community outreach efforts.  Through his leadership, Livermore strenghtened its partnerships with local and regional public safety agencies in the areas of emergency communications and SWAT team resources. Thank you for your service Chief Sweeney!

LPD Memorial Ride -- The LPD contributes and participates in numermous community efforts like Special Olympics, gathering school supplies for youth, and providing holiday gifts to at-risk families.  Another example of community outreach is the upcoming National Law Enforcement Memorial Bike Ride in Washington, DC. Two Livermore police officers are participating in the Police Unity Tour, and on Thursday, March 21st, fundraisers will be held at Casa Orozco.  For more details about this ride and fundraiser, visit

EDD Director Departs -- Rob White, the City's Economic Development Director, will leave his Livermore job on March 22 to become the first Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Davis, California.  During his 5 years here, Rob has expanded the City's partnerships with both national labs as well as the business, research, academic and investment sectors.  In 2009, Rob, in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories, formed the Innovation for Green Advanced Transportation Excellence (i-GATE) iHUB a regional public-private consortium to support an innovation economy, entrepreneurs, and technology startups.  Good luck in the future Rob!

CALED Awards--The City of Livermore's Economic Development Department will receive two Awards of Merit at the April California Association of Local Economic Development (CALED) Conference in Long Beach.  The i-GATE iHUB effort will receive an award in the partnership category, and the highly successful Outlet Mall Workshops and Job Fairs will be recognized in the Programs category.  The Job Fairs effort, led by Theresa de la Vega, was a collaborative effort between the City, Alameda County, the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District.
