Spring and Baseball  Spring has arrived, so it's time to uncover the grill, attend a wine barrel tasting, enjoy March Madness, or savor Major League Baseball opening day!  Did you know Livermore is home for the 2013 World Series -- for the 50/70 Intermediate Little League from July 30-August 5th?  Granada Little League will host this event featuring local, national and international teams.  Visit for more details. -- Marc

New LPFD Recruits-- The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) and the Moraga-Orinda Fire Department (MOFD) welcomed sixteen firefighters into a fire academy this month.  Recruits will learn about structural and wildland firefighting, rescue, vehicle extrication and hazardous materials.  Sessions will occur at the LPFD Training Center, Camp Parks in Dublin and the Chevron Refinery in Richmond. This jointly sponsored, cost-effective Academy also introduces recruits to the reality of regional firefighting collaboration.  Graduation is Friday, May 17th.

Downtown Iron Horse Trail -- The middle span of the Iron Horse Trail bridge over Livermore Avenue was completed last week.  Additional construction remains on this grant-funded project that links the Transit Center with Oak Street.  Residents may still experience short delays, traffic controls and lane closures in the weeks ahead.  Project completion is expected by May 1st.  Spring is here, so grease your bike gears or find your walking shoes and add this segment to your exercise or travel route.

Traffic Signal Coordination-- Have you recently noticed a shorter commute time while traveling city streets?  It's not your imagination.  The City received a Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) grant to implement new traffic signal timing plans along Airway Boulevard/North Canyons Parkway, Portola Avenue, Livermore Avenue, First Street near I-580, and Vasco Road.  Preliminary Vasco Road data show a 2-3 minute savings in travel time for the road segment.

Amgen Tour of California--The City is hosting the Stage 7 Start of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California on Saturday, May 18th.  Sixteen professional cycling teams from around the world will arrive around 10:00 am, and tens of thousands of spectators are expected that morning and afternoon as well.  Are you a local business owner that could benefit from marketing exposure at such an event?  Then join Shea Homes, Chevron Energy Solutions and the Tri-Valley Tourism Bureau as a race sponsor.  For more information, call the City at 925-960-4040.
