The Amgen Tour of California (AToC) visits Livermore again on Saturday, May 18th.  This prestigious bike race provides another opportunity for the City to market itself on the international and national stage -- as well as offer another fun, family-friendly weekend event for residents.  This event also allows the City to honor residents who have been impacted by cancer through the Breakaway from Cancer Walk prior to the race start.  See below for more details on Saturday's festivities.  Enjoy!  Marc   citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

AToC Start and More --Livermore hosts the Stage 7 start at 11:35 am at 3rd and K Streets by Carnegie Park.  The riders return around 2:00 pm for a pass-through along Livermore Avenue on their journey to the finish at Mt. Diablo.  A mountain top is a difficult place to hold a bike festival, so the Stage 7 "finish festival" is here in downtown Livermore!  So you can meet and mingle with the riders starting at 10:00 am, watch them speed-by in the afternoon, have fun at the festival, and view the finish on big screen TVs from 2 - 4 pm.  The City's website, www.cityoflivermore.net, provides information on the festivities in a News section entry.

AToC Road Closures-- Many special events create road impacts.  In planning for this year's AToC, City staff diligently worked with the state-wide race organizers to keep road closures to a minimum.  Major roads like Fourth Street and Railroad Avenue remain open as well as First Street except for the beginning of the race.  Livermore Avenue will have short rolling closures at the race start and again around 2:00 pm.  Details and maps regarding the downtown and rolling closures along the race route are located on the City's website at www.cityoflivermore.net in the News section.

Livermore AToC Sponsors--For this year's Stage funding needs, the City obtained local sponsorships rather than use budgeted economic development marketing funds.  Shea Homes, Chevron Energy Solutions and Visit Tri-Valley California all became major $10,000 "Leader Jersey" sponsors.  Wallgreen's, new to the community, became a City sponsor at the $1,500 "Best Young Rider Jersey" level.  Thank you, sponsors, for your assistance in bringing the race back to Livermore in 2013.

Livermore AToC Sponsors 2--Numerous local businesses and groups provide various types of in-kind support for special events like the Amgen Tour of California.  The City thanks Livermore Sanitation, Casse Croute Bakery, and KKIQ 101.7 FM for their assistance.  Also, the City's long-time partners -- Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce, Livermore Downtown, Inc, the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, and the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District --helped by serving on the Local Organizing Committee, providing services at the event, and disseminating event information throughout the community.  Thank you as well.
