School's out, so it is time for summer fun.  The Livermore area can fill your interests whether you seek a round of golf, a jog or ride on an outdoor trail, swimming, bocce, or a good e-book.  The recently posted CGI videos inform visitors and residents alike about our wonderful City.  The Library's Summer Reading Programs have something for all ages.  The July 4th festivities are just a few weeks away, and a unique event on June 24th commemorates the new element, Livermorium.  Enjoy!  Marc

Livermorium Celebration --  Did you know that Livermore now has an element on the Periodic Table named after it?  In 1989, scientists from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory collaborated with a team at the Flerov Institute in Dubna, Russia resulting in the creation of elements 114 and 116.  On May 30, 2012, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry adopted the names Flerovium (114) and Livermorium (116) in recognition of this international effort. To celebrate this accomplishment, the public is invited to the dedication of Livermorium Plaza in Mills Sqaure Park at First St. and North Livermore Avenue on Monday, June 24th at 4:00 pm.

Summer Reading Programs --The Library's summer reading programs for all ages began on June 14th.  This year's children's theme is "Reading is So Delicious!".  Youth entering grades 6-12 can participate in the teen reading program and earn raffle tickets for great prizes.  Even adults can participate in an online program where they can write reviews on the books they read, and access book lists.  Register for this fun way to spend the summer at the Library's website,  All programs run through August 17th.

July 4th Family Fun -- Las Positas College is the place to be on Thursday July 4th.  Livermore Downtown Inc. is planning a great holiday party with family fun, arts and crafts, food, live entertainment...and, of course, fireworks.  Admission is $20 per vehicle or $5 per person for walk-ins.  The fun festivities begin at 4 pm and end at 9:30 pm.  Please note:  no alcohol will be sold or consumed at this venue, and no ice chests or alcoholic beverages will be allowed.  For more information contact Livermore Downtown Inc. at 373-1795 or

CGI Videos--Livermore is now featured in ten short videos via its website as part of the CGI Communications Marketing Project.  This project is free to communities, and is a collaboration with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities.  Visit the "Community Videos" link in the bottom, left-hand corner of the City's website:  The ten videos, on topics such as our quality-of-life, education, western heritage, and arts, are posted there along with website links and videos to various local businesses and non-profits participating in the project.
