Thanksgiving ....is a time to celebrate with family and friends, so City Hall will be closed both Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th.  If family is far away, enjoy a meal and make new friends at the Livermore Community Thanksgiving Dinner.  Livermore is a generous, caring community especially around the holidays.  Please read below for ways to donate and volunteer in the weeks and months ahead.  Marc  citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

Livermore Community Thanksgiving Dinner --The 31st Annual Livermore Community Thanksgiving Dinner will occur again this year at the Bothwell Arts Center at 2466 8th Street.  Over 1000 free meals will be served at the Center and hundreds more will be delivered to those unable to come to the site.  For more information about this non-political, non-religious event, visit www.lctd.org.  Click on the "Volunteer" link to discover ways you can help this wonderful, uniquely Livermore event.

Open Heart Kitchen --Would you like to donate a 10-14 lb. frozen turkey to Open Heart Kitchen?  Their "Turkey Give-away Program" helps 1500 Tri-Valley families eat Thanksgiving dinner at home.  This organization, the only hot meal program in the Tri-Valley area, feed guests coming from all walks of life:  the homeless, seniors on fixed incomes; the unemployed and underemployed; and low-income families trying to make ends meet.  To drop off a turkey in Livermore, visit the Asbury United Methodist Church at 4743 East Avenue on Tuesday or Wednesdays between noon and 6:00 pm until November 22.  Questions?  Call 925-580-6793.

Tri-Valley Haven Food Pantry Donations --The holiday season reminds us that food pantries rely on donations all year long.  The Tri-Valley Haven Food Pantry, located at 418 Junction Avenue in Livermore, would greatly appreciate the following types of donations:  canned foods (non-expired and non-dented) like chili, canned fruit, tuna, spaghettiOs, or peanut butter and jelly; mac and cheese, rice, pasta, powdered milk, coffee, oil, cereal, flour, and sugar.  Donations may be dropped off from 9 am to noon, Monday-Thursdays.  If this schedule is problematic, call 925-449-1664 to set up a specific donation drop off time.

Volunteer Opportunities--can be found through a number of different ways in our community.  www.justserve.org and www.helplendahand.org both list varying types of opportunities with numerous non-profits in the area.  The City's webpage at www.cityoflivermore.net, posts forms for people interested in volunteering with City departments under its "Volunteer" button in the bottom left corner of the home page.  Newspaper articles and web postings provide other notices.  Take a look!
