January is a time of new beginnings and making plans.  The City of Livermore's activities reflect this mind-set as well.  Below you'll read about the new airport building and data gathering to determine downtown parking needs.  Finally, the Library's annual Livermore Reads Together program begins at the end of the month -- a real treat for amateur sleuths this year.  Marc  citymanager@cityoflivermore.net

New Airport Building --  a new Livermore Airport administration building began construction on January 13th.  The new building will house staff offices, a meeting area, and a restaurant.  Executive Chef John Chacon will operate the new restaurant named "The Vineyard Table".  Construction completion should occur around  January 2015.  For more details, contact the Airport at 960-8220.

Downtown Parking Survey -- A downtown parking survey is presently underway.  On Saturday, January 18th,  "mobile workshops" in the late afternoon/early evening around the downtown will help raise awareness about the project, promote future planning events, and gather more survey responses.  Please take this opportunity to provide your input if you see these booths near the Bankhead Theater, the Livermore Cinemas, downtown restaurants or the Safeway at First and P Streets that day.  Questions?  Call the City's Engineering Division at 960-4500.

Livermore Reads Together --This year's annual community reading program focuses on the mystery novel The Beekeeper's Apprentice.  Read the book and join your neighbors in fun activities related to Sherlock Holmes, detectives, forensics, bees and more in February.  The author, Laurie R. King, kicks-off the program with a presentation on Sunday, January 26th at the Civic Center Library at 2 pm.  Copies of books and event schedules are available at all Livermore Public Library locations and via www.livermorelibrary.net.

Construction/Demolition-- The look of the City is always changing.  Two projects may catch your attention in the weeks ahead.  A traffic signal upgrade project is now underway at three intersections:  Vasco and Patterson Pass Road, Brisa Street and Vasco Road, and P Street at Railroad Avenue.  This project will bring the signals up to current standards.  Another project concerns the old Kentucky Fried Chicken building at 50 S. Livermore Avenue.  Its demolition should be completed by the end of January.  Questions?  Call the Engineering Division at 960-4500.
