Countdown to Paragon! -- The opening of the City's new Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley is just 100 days away.  With 120 stores, it's time to start planning the opening week shopping spree.  Watch the City's Facebook page for a weekly profile countdown of the stores from Banana Republic to Cinnabon to Le Creuset to Swarovski.   And Paragon also brings over 2000 jobs! Marc

National Night Out --Mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 7th!  The National Night Out program promotes community spirit, police-community partnerships, and increased crime and drug prevention awareness among residents.  Join the Livermore Police Department and Neighborhood Watch participants for fun and information about the new web-based effort. is a social media product like Facebook that allows residents in defined neighborhoods to communicate with each other. For more information on how to participate in NNO, call 925-371-4978.

Safe Routes to School Grant -- The City just received grant funding for the first time from the Caltrans Safe Routes to School Grant Program! The $163,000 will be used to improve pedestrian access to Junction Avenue School -- a kindergarten through 8th grade campus.  Sidewalk, street, intersection and bus stop improvements will occur, and the Livermore Police Department will provide bike safety presentations and helmet givaways to students.  Thanks to our partners:  the LVJUSD, the Junction Avenue PTA, Alameda County, and LAVTA.

housing-2.jpg    CalHome Program Funding -- The City was recently awarded one million dollars by the California Department of Housing and Community Development.  These dollars will be used to provide low-interest, deferred-payment loans to assist low-income, first-time homebuyers with down payment assistance and closing costs.  The program will be publicized to eligible prospective homebuyers through the local realtor networks and the Tri-Valley Housing Opportunity Center.  Funds should be available in early August.  For more information, please call 925-960-4580.

Election Ballot Measure --At its July 23rd meeting, the City Council placed a measure on the November 2012 ballot regarding a change in the timing of Livermore Council/Mayoral elections.  These elections now occur in odd-numbered years.  The City incurs a high cost because most Alameda County local elections occur in even-numbered years.  The switch would result in a budget savings of approximately $250,000 per election to the City and possible changes to the terms for the present officials.  Registered voters will receive details about this and other ballot measures in their Voter Information Guide from the County.
